Newport Hills Neighborhood Park Planning

At the May 21 Newport Hills Community Club meeting held at the Newport Hills Community Church, the Parks Department initiated the planning process for the Newport Hills neighborhood park along SE 60th Street.  Approximately 75 residents attended, including City Council and Parks & Community Services Board members.  Staff shared an overview of the site, background information, the planning process, opportunities for feedback and the expected timeline for the design and construction of the park.  At the next community meeting, expected to be held in mid or late July, staff will share comments received since the May 21st meeting and will provide design sketch alternatives for comment and discussion.

In 2015 the City acquired a heavily-forested five-acre parcel (Patterson) adjacent to and north of the SE 60th Street property.  In May 2019 the City acquired another forested 3.7-acre parcel (Brick), adjacent to and west of the Patterson acquisition.  The total park site is approximately 13.7 acres.

The city and the Newport Hills Community Club worked together to develop a vision for the park, which was approved by the NHCC Board in 2015.  Funding for park development was approved in the 2019-2021 budget cycle.

The Newport Hills Community Club continues to be involved in the neighborhood park planning.
